Our Mission

The Animal Mission is committed to the following goals:

  • To support all spay/neuter programs in order to reduce pet overpopulation. This includes funding of free and reduced-cost spay/neuters each year for residents of Richland County.
  • To promote adoptions of shelter-bound pets.
  • To improve the condition and outcome of pets consigned to the Columbia Animal Shelter.
  • To reduce the number of pets consigned to the Columbia shelter by improving the quality of pet adoptions through increased awareness of long-term issues relevant to pet selection.
  • To support all spay/neuter programs and humane education in the Midlands in order to reduce pet overpopulation. This includes giving away $20,000 worth of free and reduced-cost spay/neuters each year.
  • To promote responsible pet stewardship in our area.

The Mission and its board members are committed to public advocacy, community events and public activities that support these goals.
